So this is my first real Seattle winter in five years.
And it sucks.
So I am going to the beach!
Hopefully a little time in Gulf Shores and Jackson is what I need.

“But you cannot deny Dumbledore got style!”
Perhaps that should have tipped us off
In case you live under a rock:
And an interesting article that gripes about Rowling’s inability to end the story.

The New Freedom blog has more details on exactly what went down.
Apparently not only was Sin Afaik, the owner, arrested, but some of the moderators are getting questioned as well, about their “organized crime” activities. eep! Plus there’s talk of a fine of £100,000,000, “which FACT are saying is what the industry lost as a direct result of the site.” Ree-dee-ku-lus. Organized crime is drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism. All of which warrant more investigation than geeks that help other geeks watch tv shows online, when they probably should be doing something else. And there’s a lot of investigating going on, because the moderators aren’t all in England and the servers for the website were in the Netherlands? Weird.

(the sound of hundreds (thousands?) of anglophiles crying out because tv-links has been shut down).
boooo! Jack Schofield of the Guardian Unlimited has a nice summary of why this not only sucks but is kind of stupid if you think about it. All the tv-links guy did was link to illegal content, he didn’t host it, and had plenty of disclaimers up about the dubious legality of watching the shows online. Wouldn’t it make more sense to go after the people who actually host the illegal content? Oh but wait, that’d mean they’d have to go after google and youtube among thousands of others. No, it’d be much easier to arrest someone and make an example of them rather than deal with the real problem. Actually the real problem is that now that you can more or less easily watch tv shows and movies on the internet, it’s not going to matter how many people they make examples of, people will just go elsewhere to get the goods. Shutting down Napster didn’t exactly stop the illegal sharing of music did it?
Bah. BAH!!!
And to show how true that is, here is a reincarnation of tv-links. As far as I can tell, it works okay, about half the links are broken. Probably will be taken down as well, so I recommend you watch as many episodes of Black Books (or whatever you prefer, had to put in a good word!) while you still can:
And here’s a list of other sites if you’re desperate.
SurfTheChannel actually seems to be another copy of tv-links, but with improvements!
I wonder, is it illegal to link to a site that links to possibly illegal sites?

Video HERE *
hehe, I used to play this game with Emma all the time!
Je te tiens, tu me tiens, par la barbichette… le premier de nous deux qui rira aura un tapette!
(We take each other by our little beards, the first one of us who laughs gets hit!)
Pretty awesome. Early on Chabal is cracking up because the other guy doesn’t know the words. Haven’t taught this to my kids at the preschool yet, for fairly obvious reasons
*(apparently wordpress only supports google and youtube videos for embedding, not sure how I feel about that…)

Once again, no time for a real post at the moment but here are some snapshots of my trip to San Francisco a few weeks ago for my old roomate Jenn’s wedding:
Such a beautiful skyline!

This is what the inmates of Alcatraz saw if they were allowed outside. Apparently on some nights, when the wind was right, the sounds of parties — laughter and music — would drift across the bay and into the cells. I can’t imagine it being much worse than that, being so close to a bustling city and yet so removed from it. Talk about seeing what you’re missing.
We had great weather, no fog and almost 70 degrees! The only thing that could make it better?

The Blue Angels, practicing for Fleet Week!
More Alcatraz and skyline shots:

This is my new favorite bookstore, located in my new favorite neighborhood, North Beach — it’s San Francisco’s Little Italy, and was also the tromping grounds of several Beats:

The Golden Gate Bridge, as seen by ferry and by car:

and finally, a cool mural scene from Coit Tower, which offers especially great views if you are up for a hike up a hill (bonus points if you climb up Lombard street and then climb down, and then climb up on the other side to Coit Tower as we did. Even as a proud Seattlite my calves were a little unhappy!)

That’s all for now!

quite civilized!
I don’t know why but I am suddenly obsessed with this guy. I think it is because he exemplifies exactly what interests me about rugby… especially when he does magnificent take downs like this one:
who cares about technique, strategy, the beauty of the game*, blah blah… I want violence!
*actually, it’s just that I don’t understand half the rules yet…
